My goal in life is simple:  I want to help others feel less broken.

I prefer to work with clients who come in to treat specific issues, as opposed to people who come in for simple relaxation. I am a healer, one who mends others. I use a whole-person approach. If a client comes to me with skin issues, for example, they may, or may not, be a result of the skin-care products they are using. Their skin issues may be caused by diet or lifestyle choices. The same holds true for a client presenting with sciatica pain. It may be due to naturally-aging hips, or it could be due to faulty body mechanics. I work with my clients to figure it out together and get them on the right path to whole-body homeostasis.

I began attending the American Institute of Massage (now called the Lotus School of Integrated Professions), under the instruction of the famous Joseph Schibner in 2005, taking my national exam in 2006 to become State-licensed. I have taken over 4,000 hours-worth of continuing education since that time in various massage techniques. My favorite types of massage to perform, however, are sports massage, trigger point therapy, and western style table Thai massage. In 2008, I began attending Trinity College of Natural Health, and received the designation Certified Natural Health Practitioner in January 2009.

I began attending the American Spirit Institute in 2017, under the instruction of Melissa Deaton (local Aesthetician rock star, with over 25 years of experience), taking my state boards in January 2018 (which I passed with a score of 93), and receiving the designation Licensed Aesthetician. My passion for skincare came from dealing with my own adult acne after being diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010 and coming to the realization that my body wasn’t properly absorbing nutrients, which was causing my skin issues, along with other problems. Because of what I went through, I made it my mission to help people with autoimmune disorders and the related skin problems. I know that I have found my true calling when I see the sparkle back in my client’s eye, and know they are now comfortable with the skin they are in, as we all should be.

I love all aspects of the Spa & Wellness Industry, but I consider my specialties to be migraine relief, sciatica relief, weight loss, and the treatment of autoimmune disorder-related skin problems. I founded my first business, Affordable Spa Services, in August 2011, in one rented room. Affordable Spa Services now occupies five rooms, employs two other licensed Aestheticians, six other licensed massage therapists, and has relocated to the eclectic Scott’s Addition Historic District. I pride myself on being an equal opportunity employer with a diverse, inclusive and highly-ethical practice. I founded my second business, Savasana Yoga Mat Bag Company, in 2017. Savasana makes yoga mat bags from 100% recycled linens and donates 20% of all proceeds to a different charity each quarter.

I really enjoy learning any aspect of holistic health because, in addition to utilizing my skills to help my clients, I apply these principles in my daily life to avoid colds and the flu from all the germs my little ones bring home from school and daycare. I believe that living a Paleo lifestyle, daily yoga practice, regular massage therapy care, and drinking enough water on a daily basis is the foundation for living the life of natural wellness inherent in our bodies’ design.

When I am not seeing spa clients, I handle all the marketing and administrative aspects of both of my companies. As a Marketing Coach, I have started assisting other small business owners in their own marketing efforts. My goal with this is to teach other small business owners the basics of popular online marketing platforms, so they can market their businesses effectively and empowering them to put their own core values and mission statements at the forefront of their brick and mortar establishments.

I have one strict rule for myself:  Mondays through Wednesdays are dedicated to operating my businesses and pursuing my continuing education, whereas Thursdays through Sundays are dedicated 100% to spending quality time with my family. This is how I maintain balance in my life. My Number One supporter, my husband Steve, and I are the proud parents of a daredevil 7-year-old son, who loves reading and practicing Taekwondo, and a sassy, but entirely adorable 3-year-old daughter, who loves playing outside and creating artwork. We also have a 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier, named Shadow, who still has a lot of puppy in her, and loves running up and down stairs, and spending time at doggie daycare visiting her buddies. When I have time to myself, I enjoy reading, traveling (especially camping), running, practicing yoga (especially hot vinyasa, and rocket yoga), and just hanging out and enjoying my kids.

Christina Brown
Licensed & Insured Aesthetician

I have been a licensed esthetician in Virginia since the Commonwealth started regulating skin therapists in 2007. I was trained and licensed in Maryland prior to 2007. My personal goal is to listen to each guest in order to understand what their skin concerns are and to explain to them how they can best care for their skin.

I am a Virginia native and have extensive familial ties to Central Virginia.  I come from a tradition of hard working farmers and a family that has continually been focused on improving the community. My family and I love going to local parks, beaches, mountains, and doing anything outdoors.  My “non-working” time is spent corralling my toddlers and caring for “fur babies”.

I have always been interested in helping people to have healthy skin and I have been blessed to have mentors who helped me be a successful skin coach for the past 20+ years. I get significant personal satisfaction by helping others to boost their self-esteem, self-confidence and develop a positive self image.  I believe to achieve this we have to use a holistic approach and look beyond superficial appearance to our beliefs, life choices and support systems.  I strongly believe in continuing education and utilize every opportunity to stay current on new techniques, ingredients and products for the skin, nail and beauty industries.  I am thrilled to be providing services at a practice that offers comprehensive wellness solutions for our guests.  I look forward to our time together.

Some of my specialties and qualifications include:

Balancing “problem” skin with both medicated and non-medicated solutions

Improving and preventing Skin discoloration

Repairing the signs of Aging

Internal Skin Detoxification

C3 School of Cosmetology Graduate – Nail Technician Program

Valedictorian at Von Lee International School of Aesthetics

Advanced Certifications from BioElements, Repechage and Dermalogica

Studied at the International Dermal Institute in Vienna, VA

Professional Member of The Powder Group

Amanda Roberto
Licensed & Insured Aesthetician

Hello! My name is Amanda Roberto and I am a recent esthetics graduate and master esthetics student of American Spirit Institute. I also received my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Management from Longwood University in 2016. It wasn’t until my junior year of college that I realized beauty and skin care was the field in which I truly belonged. Skin care first became an interest at the age of 13 when I began struggling with severe acne. I had been seeing many doctors, however, it wasn’t until I began seeing an esthetician when my skin became manageable. I spent a lot of time learning new makeup techniques to cover my acne, which ultimately lead me to becoming a makeup artist. Although makeup is a passion of mine, I felt a stronger pull towards skin care and educating those who struggle as I did. My goal is to bring out the confidence in my clients that I know they deserve. “The best foundation you can wear is glowing, healthy skin”.

Will Norton Jr.
Licensed & Insured Massage Therapist

After five years as a massage therapist in the DC area, I recently moved to Richmond and I look forward to sharing my skills with you.  Having worked everywhere from a boutique hotel to a comprehensive wellness clinic, I am fluid in a wide variety of styles.  I am most passionate about deep therapeutic work and enjoy working with athletes of all skill levels.  Whether it is fixing a trouble spot, helping rehab an injury, recovering from hard work, or helping you achieve peak performance (work or play!), I love helping you achieve your goals.

When not massaging, learning more massage techniques, or getting a massage, I enjoy playing rec field hockey and following my hometown sports teams – especially the Capitals (this is our year, right?).  A natural introvert, you can often find me curled up with a good book or game.  I love furry, four legged friends, cute cats and big dogs – I once had a Great Dane and hope to have another someday.  I also enjoy discovering coffee shops and bakeries, which quite naturally leads me to spending rather more time at the gym.  Everything in balance!

Courtney Foxe
Licensed & Insured Massage Therapist

Hello, I’m Courtney Foxe. I believe that the health of the community stems from the wellbeing of the individual. When I discovered Massage as a career choice it allowed me to combine my passion for loving people & the fulfillment I feel for helping others in a holistic way. I graduated from the massage therapy program at Northern Virginia Community College in 2014. Since then my passion for homeopathic and Ayurveda practices has only multiplied. I enjoy doing yoga, hoop dancing, reading, cooking, hiking, writing, and painting in my down time. Living a life of health and wellness, from being almost 10 years vegetarian or spending numerous afternoons atop the high peaks of a mountain, has allowed me to cultivate a deeply rooted love for preserving and maintaining a simple, homeopathic lifestyle. Guiding others to these practices in a way that they can not only feel but understand through massage and energy work is my passion. Although I’m just starting out I’m proficient in several modalities including but not limited to: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, Chakra & Energy work, Sports Massage, AIS & PNF stretching, Trigger point, Aromatherapy, and Prenatal techniques. I’m so excited to continue to add to my skill set as a therapist and pour love and healing into the world through restorative techniques that engage body, mind, and spirit.

Jenita “Phoenix” Booker
Licensed & Insured Massage Therapist
Law Enforcement Officer

You are cordially invited to an hour (or more), VACATION on my massage table!  As a young child I would rub my grandmother’s legs. In later years that turned to friend and family asking me to rub their feet and backs. I noticed that my hands never became tired and I thought about massage therapy as a career. Life happened and I steered another direction. An accident in law enforcement caused me to be in physical therapy for months. This brought back my desire to work in this field. I put it off for four years before I finally enrolled in the massage program at Fortis College Richmond, Va. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The instructors were amazing! I’ve learned so much and will never forget them.

I have a passion for helping others. I believe this is my purpose. I love what I’m able to do. My modalities include: Swedish, PNF Stretching, Hot Stone, Sports Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy.  Being a fairly new therapist, my techniques will not be limited to those just mentioned due to the fact that I’m always learning and life never stops teaching. I am CPR/AED certified. In my spare time I customize shoes/clothes and occasionally tattoo for relaxation. Got issues with your tissues? Book a massage with. The “Phoenix”. Sky above me, Earth below me, Fire within me.
